Duke “Lilith” Custom

Antti Pesonen comes from a musical family. His parents and grandfathers were all professional violinists. So naturally his first instrument was violin. Antti didn’t care so much for the very high notes though, so he swapped to cello a few years later, and studied that in a Conservatory for eight years. In his early teens however Antti fell in love with the guitar – electric guitar! Antti recalls: “The guitar sounds from The Beatles, Elvis and then later on of course Hendrix were so exciting to me, and still are. Playing guitar and composing music for my band is a great fun and the necessary counter balance for my day-job.”

Antti works as a head stage manager in the Finnish National Opera. His responsibilities are to co-ordinate and give technical cues in the performance so that the light changes, scene changes, sound effects etc. happens at the right time in the music. “The job is quite challenging and often stressful because you can spoil the whole show if you screw up! There is hardly any better way of relaxing than crabbing my Lilith and a nice glass of a single malt whiskey and letting go loose!”, Antti tells.

Antti plays a custom-built “brown velvet” coloured Duke Deluxe – Lilith – and the majority of the guitar parts on the new CDFmE album Land of Hope were played with her. The specs include stainless steel frets, custom inlays, Lerche-mod for the bridge pickup (moved 10mm further away from bridge) and a ToneStyler tone pot.

“Lilith has ended my search for a perfect dual-humbucker style guitar. It plays wonderfully, sounds clear and sweet, is built extremely well and is resonant and versatile. It responds to my touch like no other solidbody I’ve played. It’s perfectly balanced and light. And the sustain! Unless I need something with a vibrato arm, I always use Lilith and get the result I want – be it in studio or on stage. Interacting with Juha during the building process was as smooth and professional as it could be. I thank Juha and everybody in Ruokangas Guitars for their impeccable work and I respect their fine attitude towards life!”
