Whistle While You Work

Ruokangas Unicorn – In Search of Les Paul Sound.

“This is the first demo recording with my custom built Ruokangas Unicorn guitar. I decided to start from the beginning, so this became something like my humble tribute to the Instrument and the Man Les Paul. Well, eventually this became also a tribute to the Master Luthier Juha Ruokangas and his team.

Please note that ALL tracks on this demo recording are The Guitar (also the “percussion”) – like the Old Man used to do it back in those days…

I played my Unicorn Classic #48 with Unicorn Custom pickups through Mesa Express 5:25 amp with 5W / Single Ended Class A mode, additional gear and stuff being AxeTrak for Guitar, GAP Pre-73, Mackie Onyx 1220, PreSonus FireBox, Cockos Reaper, Bricasti M7 “Small Wooden Room” Impulse plug-in and UAD: StuderĀ® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder plug-in.

I also used Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay and EHX Micro POG on some of the tracks (the slap and the pitched things, respectively).

Hope you enjoy the vintage vibe I tried to catch here!

The song “Whistle While You Work” is written by Frank Churchill for the 1937 animated Disney movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. The composer died in 1942, so I presume I am not violating anyone’s rights in making this interpretation – which is a demo sound sample clip anyway.

Mr. Juha Ruokangas wanted to add this audio track to the Audio Clip compilation at his company site www.ruokangas.com, and I – feeling ultimately surprised and honored – did not refuse him in doing so… and like that was not enough, he also linked the demo on his Facebook profile. What a nice guy he is!

To end my story here, I can tell you that this Unicorn guitar plays like a dream and inspires me musically like nothing else.

Thank you Les, thank you Juha!”
